Ohio Appalachian Educators Institute (OAEI)

The Ohio Appalachian Educators Institute (OAEI) is a partnership program of Ohio University Southern and Ohio University's Voinovich School.  The Institute provides intensive professional development and leadership training to the public school districts in the twenty-nine counties of Ohio Appalachia.  The OAEI improves student achievement by supporting leadership development in school systems, creating learning communities, and facilitating collaborative relationships between unions and district management. Effective leadership and coordination means schools are better able to implement plans to improve student achievement and the region’s economy. While there are other programs dedicated to providing similar opportunities for urban schools, this program is the only one of its type focused on the underserved Appalachian Ohio region.
